We only stayed 3 days so we did not tour much around the island. Everything is maximum 30 minute drive. Taxis are inexpensive and will wait for your return trip for a minimum charge (aprox. 10 riggit/hour). Not much traffic, which makes bicycle a good transportation option.

Enjoyed the laid-back style of the island very much. We drove around and stopped where we wanted to.

We won't be rushing back to Langkawi. Luckily we only had a short trip from Singapore, I would have been very upset had I travelled all the way from Europe or the US. Development on the island is ad hoc, dispersed and not particularly tourist friendly.
The 5 star Datai and Tanjong Rhu resorts are worth a look as they arguably occupy the most attractive and memorable locations on the island.
In summary, travellers after value, great scenery, nice beaches, fantastic food, nightlife and helpful, friendly locals head for Thailand.

Beautiful & ideal for honeymooners, though it's a GHOST town after dark with zero nightlife.
A magnificient getaway nestled in the lap of mother nature.

The beach from this hotel boasts truly extensive, soft and white sand, far out as the eye can see. Overlooking the sea's sparkling horizon are some islands which are pretty easy to access via a boat trip out to sea. Langkawi's pretty hot a place to visit so bring your suntan lotions and hats. Besides there, the local food is spicy, cheap and delicious and sight-seeing wise, there are some great historical places to visit.

We took a taxi to the night market in town - it was a pleasant to walk around and take in the atmosphere. It is easy to get taxis and the fares are pretty standard, affordable. There were many interesting activities available, like nature walks, trips to waterfalls and snorkelling in a marine park - unfortunately we didn't have time to do them.

I managed to bargain down the car rental to $100 RM for two days! You may want to drive to the "Book Village" and lazed by the cool stream flowing down from Gunung Raya; or be challenged to climb the 4000 steps to the peak. Don't forget to hop on a boat to Pulau Paya to see the rich sealife; swim with the harmless baby sharks (about a dozen at any one time)in the crystal clear water!
