The resort is close to airport and shopping area, you can taxe a taxi to shopping centre. People of Langkawi are very friendly.

Make sure to get a rental car at the airport, they're the cheapest you'll find on the island, and make sure you haggle the price. Go on the cable car ride the view is stunning, drop by Galeria Perdana and spend at least half an hour there, don’t miss the waterfall. Try out the local dishes, you’ll be marvelled. If you have the time, try to visit all the other beaches, then you’ll really come to appreciate the beach on your door step.

I would recommend the Malaysian restaurant in the craft centre next door to the resort. Excellent local food at reasonable prices, and if you are lucky you can get a booth where you can recline on cushions Malay style.

Langkawi is an excellent choice if you want to have a relaxed holiday. We spent most days on the beach, and toured around the island to various points of interest by hiring a motorbike, which was a cheap and effective way to see as much of Langkawi as we liked.

Near the Langkawi Village Resort is an excellent family-owned cafe called Moody's Place that I would highly recommend for breakfast or lunch. Lovely staff who offered a wealth of information about what to do and see while on the island.

Langkawi is a nice place. I would recommend renting a car (about $18USD/day for a "brand new" car) That way, you will get to see a lot more of the island. It is easy to get around - the local tourist map is quite accurate.

Langkawi is a nice island. I would recommend renting a car since this would give you access to the whole island. There are some nice places to visit - a few waterfalls, cultural shows, etc...

Had great fun going to Pulau Payar, a marine park where you can go snorkelling and diving. Guide didn't tell us the diving was better near the floating platform, we heard someone mention it just as we left. The guides don't mention that the 7 wells waterfall is 300m up a steep hill. I had to carry my 2 year old up and down on my back.

Right besides beach garden resort is a&a travel who offer (off season) motorcycle rental for 25rm per day and a nice snorkelling trip for 90rm! per 1 October the cable car ride in oriental village is open which offer an excellent view across the island. The 30 minute ride cost about 25rm.

U Heinbuch 16 October 2002
Stayed at  Tanjung Rhu Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is a lovely and peaceful island. It is easy and reasonably cheap to get around by taxi. Langkawi Crystal is worth a visit, the Craft Complex was disappointing.

The snake sanctuary opposite the resort will only occupy 20 minutes, as it has suffered a lack of investment, but is ok.

The main restaurant appeared deserted, but the Malay style breakfast area and the bistro/fun-pub were fine. Food was varied enough and of high quality. We also enjoyed being the only guests in the bistro/pool area.
