Stayed at  Grand Continental Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
The hotel is ideally located for the person who is on a three or four day trip to the island. Hire a bike direct from the Jetty and splash out an extra RM10 for a 110cc bike, it's worth it, but make sure you have your international driving license, they are very strict. Also purchase your day trip for the snokelling from there to. Dont bother with the floating platform go with Coral Island tours. By haggling we got the trip for RM90 instead of RM120. Well worth it. The fish were more extensive in such a small reef than what I remember seeing on the Barrier reef.

To eat forget the main restaurants, go to the hawlers on the watersfront, the fish is half the price. Excellent food and very friendly people, especially 'No.1 Seafood Corner'. especially. My main advice for anybody who doesnt like spicey food, tell the restaurant "NO CHILLY". We said that to one chef at another hawkers stall, but we still had to fish out 20 chillies from the dish. Lovely island, wonderful people, excellent roads and very peaceful. Cant wait to go back.

Stayed at  Langkawi Village Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Best way to discover the Island is to take a map, to rent a car or a motorbike and to tour around. Boat-Tours also better arrange individually with local people, as all offered excursion packages were expensive, comparing to what you get for the price paid. All in all the Island was found a relaxing and silent place with not too much "Night-Life".

Langkawi is as good as Thailand

Langkawi is not our favorite place. We got bothered very much by the smell of the sullage. Even when you have dinner in a restaurant the smell can be abominable. There is also not much shadow at the beach where you are protected by the sun.

We didn't do much as it was very hot although we did the Parasending on the Beach that was quite reasonable (120R for 2). The restaurants were all good especially the Sun Village down past Pantai Tengah.

J Serink 05 March 2002
Stayed at  Sheraton Perdana Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Most of the time we traveled via taxi/cabs to get round. To try the local food, we ate along the street restaurants and ocassionally in the hotel.

Not much to see and shop, quite boring to be in Kuah.

Y Choso 24 February 2002
Stayed at  Beach Garden Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Cenang beach was said most popular beach, but it was not crowded with adequete number of hotels and restaurants.

We wera disapointed of Langkawi. The surrunding of our hotel were dirty, very few restaurants and absolutely nothing to do. OK for some lazy days but overall not a place to stay for to many days.

A Mcneil 07 February 2002
Stayed at  Beach Garden Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
The beach was pleasant and clean. Water sports including laser and hobi cat can be hired from the Reggae Bar. They can also arrange snorkelling trips to Pulau Payer. This was some of the best snorkelling we had ever done, such a huge selection of fish and coral. There are plenty of places to eat within easy walking distance of the hotel, all good.
