Stayed at  Grand Continental Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is a very beutiful island, but you should go there soon, before it gets to much like every other island. We have been ther twice and like it very much. If you play golf, visit the Golf Clubs, itīs almost free. Go for a snorkerling trip to Pulah Payar, itīs the best snorkerling trip we have ever done. The restaurants is good, try the small ones, the are clean and servs very good food. Langkawi Yacht Club is a one of the best restaurant, maybe a little bit expensive. On the beach there are several good restaurants, the best are located near the Underwater World. If itīs possible, stay at the beach. There are so many good hotels there and the view from many of them is beauiful!

The bay which the TR is located on is beautiful, but has lots of spiny urchins, so be sure to wear water shoes if you go out more than a few meters.

Stayed at  Lanai Langkawi Beach Resort, The - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Restaurants and shops are found easily within walking distance. If you don't want to walk a lot, you can rent a bicycle at the hotel or at other shops.

Nice island, nice beaches, nice nature in the inner parts, very easy and cheap travelling by car on rent (found with the help of the hotel staff). Wonderful island droppings for some hours in the many near islands. Nice restaurants are Cactus and many others of which I forgot the name, but, anyway, we never got bad meals anywhere, so try as many as possible!

It is the best place for people who want relaxing on the beach. There are not so many choices of tours and restaurants. But they are enongh for me.

Langkawi is a great place for a holiday, the Lanai has an excellent location but the management is weak and this is not the hotel to go to to enjoy the best of Langkawi.

Langkawi is a nice, quiet but still a little underdeveloped place. Be sure to take with you the medicine against common cold or food poisoning. If you have been unlucky to catch one of these, the nearest pharmacy is in Kuah town, twenty minutes drive (MR 14 taxi fare) from Pantai Tenang, where we stayed. Otherwise you have to visit an estabilishment called Global Clinic, next to Underwater World at Pantai Cenang, which is rather an unforgotteable experience. After catching cold I went there to get some medication. There were two ladies: one of them a receptionist, the other one a doctor (so it seemed). I asked for some simple, "over the counter" remedy for my condition. The receptionist registered my case, first by filling in a lenghtly registration form, afterwards both ladies tried to enter the information I had given them to the computer. All of this took about twenty minutes, making me regret the idea of using their services. But the end of my visit there went far beyond my expectations: all I got was six lozenges at rip-off price of MR 15 (appr.4 USD), they even couldn't find Aspirine tablets! Taxi service cheap, at fixed fares between locations. During holidays rubbish lays uncollected along the road in Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tenang, as there is almost no pavements, you have to watch your steps. Underwater World: interesting, but poor ventilation, low level of oxygen makes you feeling tired. Nice handicrafts, but about 40% more expensive than at Handicraft Centre in Kuala Lumpur. The beach in front the hotel is "sugarsandy" and clean. But the Patang Cenang Beach in general, where the hotel is located, could be much more cleaner. Cans, plastic bottles don't belong to such a nice place.

Don't book the snorkling trip offered every where on Lankawi! It's badly overprized (150 RM) and the snorkling spot is overcrowed. Hundreds of tourist are walking with their flippers and life vests in a small pool of cloudy water. Instead of watching fish, you see plastik bags and old tires. The left overs from the provided snack are given to remaining fish. This place is called a National Park ...
