The landscape in Cameron Highlands is beautiful although it is marred by lots of unsightly buildings. We liked the tea plantations very much. Most other visits were a little boring, especially the rose valley and the strawberry farm. There seems to be a lot of possibilities for jungle trekking. Unfortunately, it rained a lot as we were there.

For organising half day tours, CS Travel is a good company but they close very early in the evening (5:45). Avoid booking a tour directly from the bus station: the guide who was supposed to pick us up at the hotel never came and, although it was easy getting a refund, we lost one afternoon.

Cameron Highlands were beautiful. We took a bus from KL which was fine. Journey took about 4 hours and was very cheap. We hired a taxi for half a day to take us round the sights which was a great way to see everything. Beware of taxis after 9.00pm when fares seem to almost double.

We used our own driver and guide whilst away and visited all the attractions. The tea plantations were particularly fascinating and everything was good value for money. We also had a need to visit the local Klinic for an emergency wasp sting to the face and found the doctor very kind and efficient.

We took 9 days to drive around Malaysia so we managed to get a really good feel for the place. The best places to visit are KL: Chinatown for dinner and great night market; Cameron Highlands: Boh tea estate and great jungle treks that you can take without a guide; Penang: which is good but lacks the clear blue inviting waters of Langkawi or Phuket-Thailand but is very tourist friendly, also the hike up Penang Hill is invigorating (~1022 stairs)and worthwhile; Tasik Kenyir: a huge man-made lake, relatively unexplored for fishing, kayaking, jungle trekking and viewing waterfalls. Uncharacteristically clean for natural scenery in Asia! We would not recommend Kota Bahru on the North Eastern coast where angry glares and facilities are not very inviting for tourists.

The CH were lovely, a cool respite from humid Singapore. The flora and vegetation were different, with ferns, roses, decidious trees, pointsetias etc. Golf is great. The municipal course was only 40 Ringit for 18 holes.

The Boh tea plantations were very interesting, and the terraces very beautiful. There's quite a few walking trails, but the ones that our group did, didn't seem to be very well maintained.

Ye Olde Smoke House is a very twee English-style country pub with a very typical English garden and red phone box. Inside there's real fires etc. It's a bit overdone, but definitely worth a look. The Devonshire tea was nice, but pricey. We didn't eat dinner as we were told by various people who had eaten there that the food was overpriced and poor, and that they paid for the ambience.

Bearing in mind the CH has a cool evening climate, it seemed a pity that there weren't more cosy restaurants and hotels with log fires. Most seemed to be fairly souless.

BEWARE of some of the cheaper restaurants in the "downtown" area of the CH. I ate at an Indian restaurant/bar and got very bad salmonella poisoning, and was sick for two days - literally throwing up for 24 hours.

We had a car, but it would be possible to get a taxi to the trails or tea plantations.

A welcome retreat from the heat. Beware of the road though if you are driving up there. It's not for those with week stomachs.

cameron highland is a nice destination.if you are travelling by driving on your own better to travel during the daytime sinece there are many land slides because of rain.the roads are also curvy. The place called gunung brinchang in sungai balas road should not be missed since it offers excellent scenic view and is the top most point in peninsular malaysia.but self driving with excellent driving skills are required to reach this place. there are no indian restaurents available offering decent food.

Cameron Highland is not as serene and scenic as it used to be due to the vast development and new building sites. I recommend the teas estates and jungle walks.

Building activities and many new buildings, hotels and apartments, ruin the landscape.

Cameron Highland is a very scenic place. The drive there is a little exhaustive but it is very worth it to have your own transportation as you can roam around the place. If you like greenary, flowers, nature and vegetation and stay near Malaysia, Cameron is one of the good choice. Temperature is around low 20 deg. celcius in January. And it is advisable to bring along a rain jacket everytime you go out as it might just rain on you unexpectedly (5 mins - 1 hours).
