Stayed at  Pratunam Park Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
I went to Bangkok to participate in a conference, so I never had a chance to visit for sight seeing etc. I used to walk to the hotel where conference was scheduled. Beware of Taxi drivers and Tuk-tuk operator... theu would charge you a lot! Insist on going by meter. Thai cusine is very famous and you can see a lot of sea food around.

Watch out for crooked taxi drivers who refuse to use the meter! You must insist firmly that the meter be used and jump out if they don't turn it on or be surprised at the price. On the way to the hotel a taxi driver pretending to not speak English charged me 350 Bhat for a nonmetered ride. On the way back to the airport, I insisted on a meter and was charged only 137 Bhat for the same distance ride! Do not ever use Tuck Tucks.

Also shop around for tours. I paid only 750 Bhat for the River Kwai Bridge tour while another tourist in our group paid 1350 Bhat!

If you can mangge to avoid restaurants and communicate well enough it's much cheaper to eat at the food stalls outdoors and quality is surprisingly better (only 25 Bhat).

One sad note is all of the older Western men with young Thai women that they have obviously rented for the day, week, etc.

Stayed at  Chaweng Buri Resort - Samui, Thailand.
Koh Samui is becoming far too commercial. I do not travel to "exotic" locations to eat Burger King, McDonalds, and Pizza Hut, to drink StarBucks coffeee, or to Shop at Nautica and Addidas stores.

K Smith 16 January 2002
Stayed at  Amari Atrium Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Bangkok was very hectic and quite seedy in places, plenty to see and do though and some amazing sights...pollution very bad....

R Morgan 02 January 2002
Stayed at  Dusit Thani Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
What can one say about Bangkok that hasn't already been said? Personally, I would prefer the Siam Square area to the tourist area of Sukhumvit Road, not least for an evening stroll and market bargains in Patpong (and a glimpse of those seedy bars, if you've never seen them) and shopping at Jim Thompson main store.

Silom Road was closed to traffic at New Year and is rumoured to be going traffic-free every Sunday. Crowded with people but atmospheric and some live entertainment.

Access to other parts of the city is now easy with the sky train or by taxi, if traffic is not too bad. Get a tourist map from the airport and plan your shopping/sightseeing. The Grand Palace is a must-see and a river-taxi ride worthwhile but beware of pickpockets.

Traveller's tip - you can get a limo from the airport for 500 baht, or taxi for aboout 350 baht (agree beforehand or ask driver to use meter - fixed fee may be better if traffic is heavy on a weekday and should include road tolls). The limo service is good and comfortable (taxi may not be!) - it may be worthwhile booking your return transfer with them as hotel limos are very expensive.

Stayed at  Plaza Hotel Bangkok, The - Bangkok, Thailand.
Bangkok is a really nice city, with lots to see though the number of temples does get a bit much...just see the main ones and that is enough! Try travelling on the water taxis because they are cheap and reliable and a good way of getting to the Grand Palace from the Plaza Hotel! Beware however of the rogue tuk-tuk drivers who tell you the grand palace is closed so that they can take you to other places for which they will get tokens for free petrol! If you have time go to Ko Samet-this island is so beautiful that it really is a must see!!!

D Tomkins 21 November 2001
Stayed at  Ambassador Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
I would recommend anyone to go on the boat trip also to see the temples. I had a fantastic time in Bangkok and stayed an extra two nights. The only thing to watch out for is the Indian fortune teller that walks around the grounds of the hotel...after giving him 300 bht for him to tell me my fortune he then proceded to ask for a futher 2500 bht I will not tell you my reaction.(but I did not pay).

Stayed at  Plaza Hotel Bangkok, The - Bangkok, Thailand.
NICE HOTEL GOOD LOCATION BUT TOO MANY SCAMS TO RIP THE TOURIST OFF.

R Pellino 15 November 2001
Stayed at  Royal Paradise Hotel - Phuket, Thailand.
The first day we went to Patong beach, I was play with my foot in the sand and I found a used preservative. Avoid the Patong and go to other island like Phi Phi or Khai.

K Hunnicutt 15 November 2001
Stayed at  Peninsula Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
Bangkok is a magnificent city (if you like big, bustling cities)! I highly recommend using the river for transportation to most of the Wats and The Grand Palace.

Beware of bystanders telling you the Wat(s) are closed for a few hours. They appear to be helpful by offering up other suggestions of places to see and even help you hire a tuk tuk driver at an extremely cheap rate. What really happens is the tuk tuk driver will drive you just so far before he asks you to stop into a silk shop or jewelery shop so he can get "free" gas. Major Scam. Anyway, I also enjoyed using the Sky Train to get around. It is almost across the river from the Peninsula. The hotel boat will drop you off so you can catch it.
