Be careful of tuk-tuk drivers telling lies.
Very useful for the cashing machines all around the corner.

Bangkok, well its dirty and smelly. And whatever you do, don't get into a Tuk-tuk!
Fake Ralph Laren tops are good. Would only stay in Bankok as a stop over.

Thais are wonderful group of people. No stigma about prostitution which had made me quite uncomfortable and others had approached me to buy sex..I was a little offended because I am an Asian who does not condone this and want to despirately change how the west felt about us.

Stayed at Amari Palm Reef Resort - Samui, Thailand.

I loved Koh Samui. For me it was the perfect tradeoff between idyllic tropical beaches and after beach entertainment. It has a more upscale feel than Patong with cleaner, nicer beaches, better restaurants and accomodations, younger, better looking people, yet still a laid back and casual atmosphere and not packed with tourists, at least not while I was there.
The full moon party is not to be missed for the younger or younger at heart crowd. Contrary to what I read, I would strongly recommend staying on Koh Phangan for the night rather than relying on the f****ed up boat shuttles from Koh Samui. Trust me; it's survival of the fittest, tallest, and most willing to get wet when trying to get off that island from 5am onward...there are at least 50 people trying to get on each 10 passenger boat, and there isn't a dock or organized method of boarding. Whoever gets to it first, gets on. You must take the same boat back as the one that brought you there, so if you miss it (all boats look the same at 5am) or can't get to it first, you have to wait for it to make the 80min round trip. As far as getting there, although it's only a 40 minute boat ride, you will spend at least 40 minutes riding to every hotel crammed into the back of a pickup truck, waiting for and picking up passengers. Same drill going back when the sun's coming up. Quite the buzzkill.
Koh Samui has many wild dogs roaming the beaches. Beware, not of the dogs, (although some have been seen foaming at the mouth), but how you lay on the beach. Be sure to lay on a chair or towel, and walk with shoes or sandals on the sand. I came back from Southeast Asia with an unusual condition called 'creeping eruption'. It is a worm that is carried in the intestines of dogs and cats in tropical areas, but passes into the skin of humans. Dogs dump, the worms (too small to see) remain in the sand, and enter humans through hair follicles. It's not a big deal; they can't get past the top layer of our skin and therefore can't regenerate in humans, and the symptoms are only a minor inconvenience, but it's a hassle nonetheless.

Stayed at Peninsula Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.

Bangkok is a fascinating city, full of contrasts. Not to be missed are the Grand Palace, with the Wat of the Emerald Buddha, and the nearby Wat of the Reclining Buddha.
We ate at the Peninsula one evening, at the buffet in the Cilantro Restaurant. It was terrific, with Malay, Chinese, Thai, and Western options. We believe there were over 100 items, from soups and noodles, to fish and meats, to wonderful dessert. For example, there were options like escargot and duck salad. The cost was approximately $23.00 US per person. The wine list included many very expensive options, but on the last page was listed the house wine (a good one) by the glass, for under $4.
We got around primarily by public boat (8 baht or 18 cents US), and by foot, as well as skytrain. We did have one tuk-tuk experience, but we found that the tuk-tuk drivers are really hustlers and not always forthcoming about price or destination. When you are near tourist sites, people approach, to see if they can "help," then tell you that something is closed (even though it isn't) and that you should go elsewhere. Moments later, a taxi or tuk-tuk driver miraculously appears to take you to the suggested destination (usually a shopping destination for which they receive a commission on your purchases).

Stayed at Comfort Resort Patong - Phuket, Thailand.
|
Patong as a destination was somewhat of a let down. Dirty, smelly, below average restaurants, high pressure prostitutes, tailors, street vendors, and tuk-tuk drivers everywhere, and below average beaches. Plus, it's a long way from the airport. Thailand has much better coastal destinations than this.

Stayed at Thavorn Beach Village - Phuket, Thailand.
|
Phuket Fantasea constantly delights and the buffet is great. I can't remember the exact name of the restaurant (Banh ng Pa?), but it was touted as a local favorite. It was full of expats, the food was terrible (cooked for tourists) and the service was the worst I've had in Thailand.

Don't let the Tuk-Tuk drivers infront of the hotel take you for a shopping tour.
