Watch for scams on Gems. Was taken on an elaborate scheme where I was approached by an American and a local, telling me about the great buys while I was touring a temple. Was told I could return all purchases, but the Gems Palace closed down the next week.

The skytrain is a really good means of transportation and cheap if you take a multy ticket pass. A highly recommended place to eat is Yok Yor, across the river from the Sheraton. For the smokers amongst us, DO NOT throw your cigarettes on the strret when finished. This will end you up with a $50 fine! (I sure did)

Beware of Tuk-Tuk drivers taking you on shopping tours (where they get a percentage if you buy) and not to your requested destinations. Be firm and stay with your plan...

Ignore anyone who tells you the temples are closed and then tries to invite you to a shop!

Don't get ripped off by the drivers downstairs. A metered taxi to the city should not cost less than Bht200. The driver's asking price was Bht500!

Be careful about what tuk tuk rides you get. Some promise trips around the city but only bring you to shops (they get commission for this) so you end up seeing very little.

Breakfast at the restaurant was always very busy and noisy.
Do not take the limousine to the airport - much cheaper to go by normal taxi.

Watch for tuk-tuk scams re the Grand Palace and Wat Pho being closed for some 'holiday' or other. This is no reflection on the hotel but more on the mercenary nature of some Thai people.

DO NOT TRY TO TAKE A TAXI FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL! It is a 45-60 minute round trip that takes only 5 minutes to walk!

I used local buses to get around and see the city. If you use local buses, the fare is 3.5 Baht to 20 Baht (depending on destination). I just took a different bus each day to see the sights. (Get free maps at the airport, as they can be very helpful. They had 4 different kinds when I was there.) If anything looked interesting, I got out and looked around. The air-conditioned buses at 20 Baht is a great bargain to sight see and get off if you see a market with lots of people shopping. The only real bad thing was the polution and high traffic volume. The tuk-tuks polute as they use 2 cylinder engines. If they had 4 cylinders, they would polute less. At night time, it is easy to find food to eat, as the streets turn into food stalls filling most of the main streets on the sidewalks. The sidewalks are trickly, so be carefull you do not fall into an open hole. It might be a sewage drain.
