Nha Trang is a pretty good beach town, but be warned -- the water is blue, but there is garbage floating in it. The Vietnamese don't seem to have the respect for the environment that you would hope they have. Plenty of plastic bags floating in the turquoise waters. If you want to go scuba diving, check out Octupus Diving, they are run by an Aussie and have very high standards.

Hiring a moped from the hotel cost US$5 per day and is great fun. It lets you get out and about to see Nha Trang (if you can brave the madness on the roads that is). The tour around the market in the morning with the Chef is also an interesting tour and lets you see the non-touristy side of Vietnam (but beware animal lovers, you might find some of what you see shocking!!)

The only really bad thing was the loudspeaker on the street that blared from 5 to 7 am and 5 to 7 pm. Even earplugs, closed windows and drapes, and the covers over my head could not keep me from being awakened at 5 am every morning! The Ministry of Propaganda and the Ministry of Tourism need some coordination.
Overall, Nha Trang is a good destination.

HCMC - stayed at Hotel Majestic -- very nice hotel in a very convenient location. HCMC itself only warrants 24 - 48hrs for sightseeing.
Nha Trang - stayed at Yasaka Saigon Nha Trang Hotel -- good hotel in great location. Nha Trang was nice. Unfortunately, the beaches were littered with garbage.
Hanoi - stayed at Green Park Hotel -- good hotel where they really tried hard for you. Good price ($50 USD). Only downside -- a little bit out of the way from the central tourist areas (like Hang Gai shopping, etc).

Beaches were beautiful, however water was downright dirty. City needs to make efforts to clean up water and beaches of garbage.

We took no tours. We basically laid on the beach. We would recommend the Rainbow Bar for hanging out during the day. They have free beach chairs/umbrellas and they don't allow vendors to sell you things (after one day of constant selling we were ready for quiet). We also went scuba diving/snorkelling with the Rainbow Diving Club. We liked the Sailing Club restaurant and the Ana Mandara Resturant.

The Beach in NHA TRANG is ok and you may want to relax there, but there is a big problem with theft. Youngsters work in a team, one with a running motorbike, others approaching from behind and suddenly grapping what they can get and then jumping on the bike and driving away. Even if you not took valuables to the beach you might have the problem that your shoes or towel may get stolen. They even took my rubber sandals size 45 (value 3$). The police knows the problem but does nothing.
There is one kind of tour which is offered by any agency in town, the party-boat 4 island tour for just 7$. Other tours are hard to find, some diving shools offering some but have the problem that not enough people show up and have to cancel the trip.
NHA TRANG offers a good selection of restaurants and food.
